Nancy Jo Garrett is a co-founding partner of the law firm of Garrett Richardson, PLLC. Ms. Garrett is an Idaho native and is known for her background in health care, which provides the perfect mix for her 35 years of legal practice. Prior to practicing law, Ms. Garrett graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, followed in 1982 by a Master of Science in Nursing Education from Idaho State University. She has nursing subspecialties in emergency care, trauma, cardiac care, nursing education, and long-term community health. While working in the area of emergency nursing, she also held a tenure tract faculty position in the College of Health-Related Sciences at Idaho State University. She was on faculty at Idaho State University until she entered and attained her Juris Doctorate from the University of Idaho. While at law school, Ms. Garrett tutored first year students from the University of Idaho, assisted professors with research, and practiced nursing at the local emergency room.

Ms. Garrett began her law career with the firm of Quane, Smith, Howard & Hull, in Boise, Idaho, where she immediately practiced in the area of medical malpractice defense. In 1993, she joined the law firm of Cosho, Humphrey, Greener and Welsh, becoming the first female partner of that firm. In 1998, Ms. Garrett co-founded the firm of Gjording & Garrett, with her practice continuing to center on medical malpractice defense. Ms. Garrett subsequently became a partner with the law firm Brassey, Wetherell, Crawford & Garrett. In 2008, Ms. Garrett joined the law firm of Moffatt Thomas, also as a partner.

In addition to Ms. Garrett’s established practice in medical malpractice defense, she has experience and knowledge in representing clients/health care clients as to other legal needs; governmental billing requirements and guidelines for Medicare; Medicaid matters to include matters dealing with allegations of fraudulent practices or practices outside the controlling guidelines; professional licensure issues; health care privileges; and complaints before the specific governmental boards for professional health care practitioners. Her practice also includes water law, complex litigation, professional administrative law and equine law, along with supervisory positions over the years for many attorneys.

Ms. Garrett is licensed to practice law in the States of Idaho, Washington and Oregon. She has been a member of the Inns of Court for the Fourth Judicial District. Ms. Garrett also holds an Advanced Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from the Northwestern Institute for Dispute Resolution.

Ms. Garrett is involved in her community and is a volunteer for her county polling/voting sites. Family is her number one passion along with all aspects of rural lifestyle.
